FYDP Ideas Brain Storming Discussion
Attendees: Riyad Khan, Jorge Castro, Shivam Bhatt, Joshua Unrau
Notes:
Brainstorming different possible ideas for the FYDP
Interested in tackling problems involving autonomous swarm systems
Agent swarm system to cooperate to perform a task, e.g. four robots that cooperate on moving around or rearranging furniture
We would like to use reinforcement learning in the project
Small modular robot swarm for use in sewer systems, house piping, airplane fuselage, mine shafts, warehouses
Automated port tugs, airplane tugs, drone robots that stick themselves onto a plane wing
Pontoon bridge inspired by Brazilian Army ants; it is a good idea to look to nature for more inspiration
Everyone has now been added to a learn group, group 11
Everyone has now been introduced to the Trello board and shown a demonstration of how it works
Joshua has a 3D printer, but it is in Vancouver, so we are still considering getting one
In terms of reaching out to other professors we think it is not necessary, but any connections or resources could be useful and the best time to reach out would be as early as possible, Shivam will possibly reach out to someone
Can we solve/improve Traffic problems using a swarm system to improve communication and coordination between vehicles. This approach tackles the traffic problem from the point of view of inefficient systems and bad planning. Potential research ideas what is the minimum amount of information needed for such a system to work, at what point does it just shut down due to lack of information. On a large scale such a system would need to be decentralized as it is way too much information for 1 car in a city to track all other cars, possible solution track available paths instead of cars. Multi-agent path planning.
Difficult to get simulation data, drone follower to gather real world data
Drone as a replacement for street cameras
Human machine interaction, light, haptic feedback
A drone capture or docking system can help drones refuel/recharge mid journey
Implementation of a local positioning system to guide robots, kinematic and planning based not perception or visual
Fleet of cranes and forklifts cooperating
